By now you have heard about the shooting that took place in a church on December 29th, 2019 in White Settlement, TX. A shooter (Name withheld) came into the Sunday morning worship service dressed wearing a trench coat while disguised with a wig and fake beard.

The church security team members recognized the unordinary dress and behavior, and were in the process of positioning themselves when the attacker stood up mid-service. “From the time he walked in the door, we had eyes on him,” Wilson told reporters Monday. Unfortunately, he was able to shoot one of the other volunteer safety team members prior to that individual being able to deploy his own firearm. The shooter then turned and shot another victim standing near by. As the shooter moved to the front of the sanctuary, safety team volunteer Jack Wilson quickly fired a single shot that immediately incapacitated the shooter.
This all happened in a matter of a few seconds. “The only clear shot I had was his head because I still had people in the pews that were not all the way down as low as they could. That was my one shot,” Wilson said Monday during an interview from his home in nearby Granbury. At around 30’, this was a difficult shot. How did he do it? Because he put in the hard work training and practicing ahead of time. Mr. Wilson has operated a firearms training company for many years and is a former reserve sheriff deputy. He said the congregation began training a security team about 18 months ago, after nearly two dozen churchgoers were killed in Sutherland Springs in late 2017.
“I don’t feel like I killed a human, I killed an evil and that’s how I’m coping with the situation,” Wilson said.

It is very unfortunate that two innocent people lost their lives in this shooting but there is no doubt that the actions of Jack Wilson saved many lives that day. There were more than 240 congregants in the church at the time of the shooting.
The state of Texas passed a new law earlier in 2019 allowing licensed handgun holders to carry a weapon in a place of worship as long as the facility doesn’t prohibit them.
